DemoMate for Windows 8 Released!

The DemoMate Team is proud to announce that a new version has been released (Version 1.5.1137) with streamlined installer and client compatibility with Microsoft Windows 8! Simply install DemoMate on any Windows 8 computer and launch the application from the Start screen to begin using the DemoMate authoring environment.

We’d like to thank our friends on the Windows 8 team for their support on this effort, and thank our amazing engineering team their great work in this release, timed to coincide with the global rollout of Windows 8.

Installing Demos on Windows 8

For demos packaged in DemoMate builds previous to 1.5.1137, users might encounter installation issues on Windows 8 machines, where the installer does not progress past the "Installing DemoMate prerequisites" task.

This occurs because DemoMate is currently built using features of the .NET 3.0 Framework, which some installations of Windows 8 might not have installed by default. To configure your machine to run DemoMate, please follow these instructions:

1. Press the Start button, and do a search for “Turn Windows features on”.

2. Select the Settings option in the right-hand search results.

3. Click or tap the Turn Windows features on or off item:

4. In the Windows Feature dialog box, place a check next to .NET Framework 3.5 and then click OK.

5. The .NET Framework 3.5 will now install on your machine. Once the installation has completed, you can run the DemoMate installer on your machine.

For demos packaged with Build 1.5.1137 or later, this issue will not occur, as the installer has been updated to correctly install the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8. If you plan on distributing demos to a team that is using Windows 8, it is recommended that you take a minute and repackage the demos in Build 1.5.1137 or later, so your team has the best experience deploying the demos.

DemoMate Enhancements - February 2012

The DemoMate Team is proud to announce that a new version has been released (Version 1.5) introducing a number of new features and enhancements for design control. Take a look:

Text Colors: With this new release, you can match the font color of your text entry boxes more precisely to the fonts on the screen. Select from a number of common color choices or input hexadecimal values to match colors precisely.

Highlight Box Colors: Similarly, you can now adjust the color of any highlight box.

On-Screen Prompts: We’ve added a new packaging option that gives you greater control of how the click instructions are displayed in interactive training or guided labs. You can now specify whether you want the click beacon to be displayed for all steps in your demo, no steps in your demo, or just the guided steps.

Buffering Enhancements: The DemoMate Player now features enhanced buffering to optimize delivery and performance of your demo content when hosted on websites, blogs, and SharePoint pages.

Asset Control: You can now right-click on a section name to view the assets associated with that section, such as audio files.

General Maintenance: Numerous performance enhancements, updated help text, and bug fixes.
